Another good album from Nas
If you know anything about hip-hop, no doubt you have heard of Nas. Nas has been one of only a few rappers who has been able to continuously drop hits album after album. It seems like every album he comes out with becomes a classic.
"It Was Written" starts off with the customery intro which I listen to once, and then skip. I suggest you do the same. Track 2 is "The Message." Good song with a classic beat. Plus, Nas has a great rapping voice. Up next is "Street Dreams." Another good song. The chorus goes "Street dreams are made of these Niggaz push Beemers and 300 E's A drug dealer's destiny is reachin a key Everybody's lookin for somethin.. Street dreams are made of these Shorties on they knees, for niggaz with big G's Who am I to disagree? Everybody's lookin for somethin.." This is a good example of Nas' lyrical skills. Up next is a slower track, "I Gave You Power." This is one of my least favorite tracks off of the cd. I like the chorus, but don't like the beat that much. Basically Nas talks about how he feels everyone is biting off of him. "Watch Dem Niggas" declares watch the niggas that are close to you, because they are the ones who can harm you. Beats, lyrics, chorus it's all there and this is another classic song. My favorite song off this cd is "Take It In Blood." This track has plenty of bass and everything about the track is good. Dre drops by on "Nas Is Coming." Nas and Dre come together squashing the East and West stuff that was going on at the time. "Affirmative Action" is another one of the better tracks on this cd. Good verses are dropped by everybody. The chorus is nice, too. There are about three songs in a row that are ok, but than comes "Shootouts." This track has a classic beat. It is simple, but gets stuck in your head and Nas knows how to flow over it. This cd finishes up with the first single "If I Ruled the World." Lauryn Hill from the Fugees sang the chorus on this track. I don't really like this song, but it helped sell this record, getting plenty of air play when it came out.
This is the type of cd I can listen to all the way through without hitting the skip button. It is filled with one great track after another. If you don't already own this cd, pick it up it needs to be in everyones collection.
